Three Ways To Remove A Flushed Toilet Paper Holder

Posted on: 29 February 2020

The toilet paper holder is often located near the toilet. One day, while you're using the bathroom, you might accidentally dislodge the holder and cause it to fall in the toilet while you're flushing it. The holder may go down, but it's also likely that it will become stuck and cause your toilet to back up. Fortunately, there are ways to remove the holder.

Don't Leave the Clog

If you do not remove the toilet paper holder, toilet paper and human waste will accumulate around the holder and will cause the toilet to back up. You might be able to rinse that away by pouring water down the toilet, but the toilet will back up again in the future.

Use a Plunger

The first step is to use a plunger. Place the plunger over the hole in the toilet to create a tight seal and then perform an up and down plunging motion. This might create enough force to pull the toilet paper holder out of the toilet. If you are having a difficult time dislodging the object, make sure there are no gaps on the side of the plunger.

Remove It by Hand

A common way that objects are dislodged is by pulling out the object. Make sure to put on rubber gloves so that you don't come in contact with germs. The gloves also need to be long enough to cover your forearms or the contaminated water will splash and get in your glove. Also, make sure to place towels around the base of the toilet.

Remove the lid from the toilet so you can access the water tank and shut off the water supply. Press the flapper at the bottom of the tank closed to prevent water from filling the toilet bowl. Then, you can reach into the bowl and try to grab the toilet paper holder to remove it.

Use an Auger

It might be worthwhile to purchase an auger. Place the end of the snake into the toilet. Crank the handle clockwise. When you can no longer crank, you might be encountering resistance and you will then want to jostle the snake so that you can dislodge the clog.
